The home insurance that’s right for you

We all want to protect our home and our possessions. Having the right kind of insurance in place is the easiest way to do this. Your home could be damaged from fire, flood, a break-in, storm damage etc. The purpose of home insurance is to guard against these risks and more. When choosing home insurance you should think about the cover you are getting. It’s not only the price that can vary from insurer to insurer and policy to policy − quality of cover can vary too.

Types of Homes Insurance

Home insurance can be split into two parts:

Buildings Insurance

Buildings insurance covers the structure of your property and permanent fixtures and fittings, such as:

  • Baths
  • Toilets
  • Fitted kitchens
  • Bedroom cupboards
  • Decor, including wallpaper

It also usually includes garages, greenhouses and garden sheds. Buildings insurance is a requirement of your mortgage offer – without it your mortgage will not complete.

Contents Insurance

Contents insurance covers loss or damage of your possessions, such as:

  • furniture
  • curtains
  • clothes
  • televisions
  • computers
  • kitchen equipment (freestanding, not fitted)

Could you cover the cost of replacing your possessions?
